The Diversity of Life
A journey through the worlds of animals, nature, history, and art. Join us on a safari in the fresh air across every continent and discover native and exotic animals in a landscape of picturesque beauty.
The proud peacock introduces you to the exotic diversity of Asia, where you can explore Nepal alongside the red panda. Europe also has many surprises in store with its fallow deer and lynx. Then continue on to the far north to see the Arctic wolf, to North America to see the bison herds, to South America to see the Liszt’s marmosets—also known as woolly-headed tamarins—and then to the heights of the Andes, where the alpacas live. Up close with the emus and kangaroos, you can experience what distant Australia is like before heading to Africa to meet the “king of the animals,” the lion—Caesar and his family—and gallop across the savanna alongside the zebras. Feeding sessions with commentary, observing baby animals, or an adventurous tour of the castle promise an exciting day. An added bonus is that the attraction is dog-friendly.
This tourist destination in Eastern Styria is home to more than 700 animal species. With 90 animal species from 5 continents and a 46-hectare area, Tierwelt Herberstein (Herberstein Animal Park) is one of Central Europe’s largest wildlife parks. We participate in more than 20 Austrian (e.g., the white Baroque donkey, the Ural owl) and international species conservation programs (e.g., the two-toed sloth, the macaw, the spectacled bear, etc.) to help preserve biodiversity.
STYRIAN SHOW (STÁJERORSZÁGI SHOW)
Under the title “The Diversity of Life,” the STEIERMARK SCHAU 2023 at the Herberstein Animal Park focuses on preserving the diversity of species and habitats, as well as on measures to combat climate change—the greatest challenges of our time. A mobile pavilion is generating interest in these important topics even beyond the province’s borders.
The new “House of Biodiversity” (located in the former Gironcoli Museum) features numerous hands-on exhibits that invite visitors to discover the wonders of natural diversity and draw attention to the important services that undisturbed natural cycles provide for us. The neighboring Feistritzklamm European Nature Reserve offers the opportunity to combine a visit to the exhibition with outdoor nature experiences. Five outdoor stations, architecturally integrated into the landscape, serve as a “diversity trail” to draw attention to the diversity of habitats and natural networks. A viewing terrace offers a breathtaking view of the species-rich natural landscape of the Feistritzklamm Gorge.
Mobile Pavilion
A STEIERMARK EXHIBITION mobile pavilion takes us from the regional level to the planetary level and draws our attention to what naturally surrounds us: the atmosphere.
The exhibition on display in the pavilion opens up unexpected perspectives through its artistic contributions and exhibits related to climate and space research.
Also NEW starting in April 2023
Herbie's Play World ("Herbie játékvilága" next to the "House of Biodiversity")
At "Herbie's Spielewelt," an indoor playground covering an area of 1,100 m², children ages 2 to 12 can have fun and play in all kinds of weather. With the Power Tower, Ninja Area, trampolines, and Donut Glider (doughnut slide), there are plenty of exciting experiences for children to discover here.
Visit the Herberstein Adventure Park (Erlebniswelt Herberstein) as often as you like— with an annual pass, you can make an unlimited number of trips here during opening hours.
