Caesar is now eating in public!

It’s “curtain up” for our Caesar every Friday at 11 a.m.! The young lion is the star of the narrated feedings. His friend Simba makes his grand entrance on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. and on Sundays and holidays at 12 p.m.

During the show, our big cats devour a 6–7 kg beef bone suspended from a gallows, while our zookeepers share interesting and unique facts about the lions’ way of life, along with a few anecdotes from zoo life. Visitors also have the opportunity to ask questions.

Spanning all continents—from spectacled bears to varis to the Hudson Bay wolves—a variety of guided feeding sessions are offered daily. While a beef bone is the lions’ “Sunday dinner,” other delicacies are also prepared in our kitchen. The diet of our animal residents is varied: in addition to meat, we also process chicks, grains, and dairy products; cut up fruits such as apples, melons, and pineapples; prepare vegetables; and cook monkey porridge for our varis and siamangs.  Annual consumption of apples and carrots totals just under 40,000 kg. But it’s not a feast every day; some animals, such as cheetahs, lynx, and pumas, also have to watch their weight and observe a fasting day once a week.
