"The exact cause of the illness could not be definitively determined. The tests suggest a genetic or nutritional cause ," explains the zoological director, veterinary specialist Dr. Reinhard Pichler.
The remaining lions, Amira and Caesar, show no abnormalities. There are currently no plans for further breeding, so a hormonal implant was inserted into the lioness Amira. As part of this procedure, blood tests were also performed on the mother, which showed no abnormalities.
