Discover our new attraction on the Afrikawiese: Terraplex 360—an impressive planetarium that takes you on a fascinating journey through the universe.

Terraplex 360 is currently in its soft opening phase, but visitors can already enjoy exciting film screenings. The live, hosted program takes you on a journey to stars, planets, and distant galaxies—a special experience for all ages.

During a warm visit to the South America Pavilion at Tierwelt Herberstein on March 5, 2026, HannesAmesbauer, State Councilor for Animal Welfare and Nature Conservation, became the sponsor of a very special family: tapir dad Gonzo, mom Lelaila, and their baby, Kylie.

Attention families: If you’d like to see how African Barbary lions or South American tapirs behave in freezing temperatures, you can visit Tierwelt Herberstein at a discount this winter. From November 27, 2025, through January 11, 2026, visitors who present a receipt from SPAR, EUROSPAR, or INTERSPAR will receive a 10 percent discount on admission. Tierwelt Herberstein is open in the winter from Thursday through Sunday and on holidays, and daily during the Christmas break (the park is closed only on December 25 and January 1).

Since 2013, red pandas have been part of the animal population at this tourist destination in eastern Styria. After waiting more than a decade, the pair finally welcomed a new addition this summer. The birth of these rare and endangered animals is a significant success for the international species conservation program.

An inaugural visit in two respects: Karlheinz “Charly” Kornhäusl, State Councilor for Culture, paid an inaugural visit to Tierwelt Herberstein. At the same time, the Carpathian lynx named Charly—a new animal arrival—was welcomed to the popular tourist destination.

After several weeks of treatment, it is now a sad certainty: the lion cubs Spartacus and Tiberius have passed away. The cubs' health had been steadily declining.

After the arrival of the male lion Caesar in 2017, his pairing with his mate Amira in 2018, and the birth of the first Styrian lion cubs in 2019, the lion program at Herberstein—with its small pride—seemed to be on the right track. Despite some initial difficulties—lioness Amira didn’t have enough milk—the three male cubs developed very well; Spartacus, in particular, grew from the smallest and most delicate of the cubs into an extremely impressive young lion. He soon caught up to his brothers in weight and size and surpassed them in no time.

The Styria Exhibition at Tierwelt Herberstein lets you rediscover the wonders of nature: interactive experiments, adventurous outdoor venues, a spectacular video-space-sound installation, and many other stations invite you to discover the fascinating “diversity of life.”

On October 26, 2023, certified yoga instructor Victoria Kuna will lead a mindfulness yoga class in Vinyasa Flow at the Mobile Pavilion.

On Saturday, October 7 (or the following day in case of rain), from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the entrance area of Tierwelt Herberstein will be dedicated entirely to nature and the environment. Eleven organizations will present interesting facts about nature conservation.

Herbal expert Michael Flechl guides participants through the plant world, which is coming under increasing pressure due to climate change; he shares his knowledge about plants and their uses, and the tour concludes with a group herbal tasting.

The STEIERMARK SCHAU 2021 presented a cinematic reflection on the relationship between people and the Styrian landscape in a mobile pavilion, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in a variety of sustainable themes and personal perspectives over the course of a weekend.

Fatherly Parenting in the Nandu Enclosure: After a 40-day incubation period, two chicks hatched. With this species of bird, both incubation and raising the chicks are “a man’s job.”

The Mobile Pavilion invites you to embark on a fascinating journey through worlds of sound and color—free of charge. On August 25, Nick Acorne and TAS Visuals will present a unique night of clubbing featuring a sensor-based mini-concert and algorithmic DJ sets.

Experience the natural paradise of the Feistritzklamm. Equipped with catch nets and magnifying glasses, participants will collect and identify small animals. Suitable for children ages 6 and up and their parents.
