At the Research Mobile at Tierwelt Herberstein

Discover the natural paradise of the Feistritzklamm. Together with researchers from the Natural History Department of the Universalmuseum Joanneum, you’ll explore the area and identify small animals. Around the research van, participants will search for insects, arachnids, and other small creatures. Equipped with catching nets, dip nets, sieves, insect suction devices, and magnifying glasses, they’ll collect the animals and then identify them.

Well over 2,000 species of beetles have already been discovered in the Feistritz Gorge. There is also a large number of butterflies, grasshoppers, leafhoppers, and wild bees. Our experts provide insight into the diversity of these species and their lifestyles.

The meeting point is right next to the research van in the Feistritzklamm (the location is marked on the Steiermark Schau map). From the ticket office at Tierwelt Herberstein, allow 30 minutes to walk there.
