Attention families: If you’d like to see how African Barbary lions or South American tapirs behave in freezing temperatures, you can visit Tierwelt Herberstein at a discount this winter. From November 27, 2025, through January 11, 2026, visitors who present a receipt from SPAR, EUROSPAR, or INTERSPAR will receive a 10 percent discount on admission. Tierwelt Herberstein is open in the winter from Thursday through Sunday and on holidays, and daily during the Christmas break (the park is closed only on December 25 and January 1).

Almost like in the wild: Tierwelt Herberstein is one of Styria’s most popular family destinations, as it features over 700 animals from five continents in spacious, natural habitats. Visitors stroll along a loop trail that winds through Africa, the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Australia. The animals that are crowd favorites include all the big cats, monkeys, and kangaroos. For families, there are guided animal feedings, a petting zoo with goats, mini Appaloosas, and white Baroque donkeys, as well as spacious play and recreation areas.

Mag. Christoph Holzer, Managing Director of SPAR Styria and Southern Burgenland, is delighted with the family promotion:“As a long-standing partner of Tierwelt Herberstein, it’s important to us to once again offer our SPAR customers discounted admission this year. We are a family-owned business and embody this commitment in every way. Especially in winter, it’s particularly exciting for young and old alike to experience both local and international wildlife. It’s all the more wonderful when we can help take a little pressure off families’ outing budgets.”

Karin Winkler, a member of the management team at Tierwelt Herberstein, adds: “Anyone who takes a walk through our zoo in winter will experience the animals in a unique atmosphere. Although many species spend more time indoors, they remain active and can be easily observed through large viewing windows. We look forward to welcoming many SPAR customers from all over Styria and southern Burgenland. We offer additional attractions such as guided feedings, the ‘House of Biodiversity,’ and Herberstein Garden Castle.”
