YIPPIE YIPPIE, YEAH YEAH

We’re thrilled!!! We’ve brought the PR Panther to Herberstein. With our online animal encyclopedia, we secured the win in the tourism category. Due to the pandemic, the awards ceremony took place online. Because of COVID-19, the winner’s trophy and certificate were presented a few days later in a small gathering by Thomas Zenz, chair of the expert group, to Tierwelt CEO Doris Wolkner-Steinberger and Marketing/PR Director Karin Winkler.

The PR Panther 2020 has now found a new home in the office, and, by the way, it’s the only big cat you can pet in Herberstein. Speaking of big cats: Tierwelt Herberstein is home to cheetahs, lynx, pumas, and lions.

What is the PR Panther?

The PR Panther is an award recognizing outstanding PR achievements by Styrian companies and organizations, as well as PR services provided by Styrian PR consultants and agencies—including those for non-Styrian clients. The competition is organized by the Advertising and Market Communication Section of the Styrian Chamber of Commerce (WKO Steiermark).

The Project Idea

What does a zoo do when it goes straight from the winter season into the COVID-19 lockdown, and the start of the peak season falls victim to the virus? “Press on” was our motto. We launched the Herberstein Animal Encyclopedia on our social media channels! The film crew led by Oliver Zeisberger took advantage of the period without visitors to film the animal residents at their leisure and shoot short stories. The zoological insights came from the animal educators at the Herberstein Zoo School, and after just a few days, it was clear: this would be a series designed to whet viewers’ appetite—for more of these animal portraits and for their next visit.

Have you heard about our Social Wall yet? Why not check it out—there's always a LOT going on here!

In addition, as part of this project, the traditional Easter event “The Search for the Golden Egg” was held online and combined with a contest. A virtual tour spanning all continents was also produced. This makes it possible, for the first time, to take a trip to the zoo from the comfort of your living room sofa. Curious? The Sequel

A total of 20 animal species were featured. Winning the PR Panther 2020 award is a clear mandate for us to continue this animal series, which is presented from a zoological perspective and is therefore both educational and exciting . There are currently 85 animal species at Herberstein, so there are still many stories to tell through our online animal encyclopedia.

In addition, each issue of the Animal Encyclopedia comes with a worksheet that is available here for free download or as a printable template. This is a great resource for educators teaching general studies or biology.
