Dogs have been a standard part of police work, rescue operations, the military, and customs for many years. Recently, specially trained dogs have also been used in scientific research and nature conservation projects.
A network of dedicated dog handlers, trainers, and experts supports the organization with their expertise. The association serves as a platform for anyone interested in learning about the use of dogs in nature conservation and species protection. Mutual exchange takes place at conferences and through consultations with government agencies and institutions.
In regularly held courses, “human-dog teams” are trained to detect specific target scents and prepared for practical fieldwork. Upon completion of the training, participants receive certification to ensure a consistent and high standard.
Human-dog teams are now being deployed in the field throughout Austria. Current operations include cases of illegal hunting of protected species, searches for animals killed by wind turbines, bark beetle control, and support for various scientific projects.
