The summer season kicks off this weekend at Tierwelt in Eastern Styria: The first baby animals have already been born at Tierwelt!
This year’s theme focuses on the Incas and their sacred animals.
A long winter is over, and the animals are looking forward to the warmer season. In the spring, the zoo’s animal population grows almost daily: there have already been new arrivals at the petting zoo among the goats, rabbits, and sheep, as well as among the muntjac family and in the African bird aviary. New arrivals are on the way for the prairie dogs and bison. “Especially with wild animals, it’s hard to predict exactly when they’ll give birth. What’s certain is that bison calves will be born in mid-April,” says Doris Wolkner-Steinberger, head of the animal department.
New:Mythical Animals of the Incas
Starting April 1, the spectacled bear, the puma, and their South American counterparts will take center stage, as the Incas attributed mystical powers to them. The puma is considered the king of the Andes, and the spectacled bear is seen as a mediator between good and evil.
