Emy the turtle from the Donauauen National Park introduces her endangered local friends.

Simba the lion and the animals at Herberstein Zoo are getting a special visitor on Saturday: Emy the turtle from the Danube Floodplains has invited her endangered friends to Eastern Styria to raise awareness about species conservation.
Species conservation is one of a zoo’s main tasks. In Herberstein, an entire day is now being dedicated to this topic.
Animals from all over Austria are gathering there to convince visitors of the importance of their survival.

Emy, the marsh turtle, has traveled from the Donauauen National Park to meet her endangered friends. She’s even come up with a tricky riddle to introduce local species conservation projects! You’ll get to meet her friends— the bat, the stork, the lynx, and more . Not only will you get to know the animals, but you’ll also solve tricky puzzles, play fun games, and have plenty of time for crafts!
At the end, animal-themed prizes await the winners!

Animal and species conservation is a top priority at Tierwelt Herberstein all year round. To raise awareness of this topic among visitors, the Austrian Zoo Organization ( OZO) hosts Species Conservation Day, where organizations such as the Nature Conservation Union, the Weitental Nature Conservation Center, Batlife, Gesäuse National Park, and many others present their valuable work for animals and nature. Species conservation is essential for maintaining the balance of nature. To save endangered animal species from extinction, zoos have developed special breeding programs.

Of particular importance to Tierwelt Herberstein is the “Reintroduction of the Ural Owl” project led by the Research Institute for Wildlife Biology and Ecology and the OZO. The offspring of our Ural owl pair, Bonnie and Clyde, are already living in the wild.

Date: Saturday, August 4, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Raffles at 12:30 and 3:30 p.m.
