Every year around this time, things really get going at the petting zoo at Tierwelt Herberstein: The first baby goats have been born.
In November 2019, Valentino, a pygmy goat buck, spent four weeks on an “internship” at the tourist attraction in eastern Styria and, without further ado, traded his original home—a farm in Zeil near Pöllau—for the home of these exotic animals. As it stands now, he has mastered his “job” brilliantly, as the first results are now visible. Six baby goats (three males and three females) have already been born, and more births are expected in the coming days.
“Every year, the baby goats are the highlight for our youngest zoo visitors,” says Tierwelt Director Doris Wolkner-Steinberger, delighted with the animal “kindergarten” at the petting zoo. Visitors will be able to give the youngest Herberstein offspring their first cuddles starting Friday, May 15, 2020, when Tierwelt Herberstein—delayed due to the coronavirus—kicks off the tourist season.
Hours: Starting May 15, daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
