A Satisfactory Record in Both Areas and New Zoological Leadership

The first annual report for the two facilities under joint management, with approximately 230,500 visitors, is a cause for satisfaction. On January 10, Dr. Reinhard Pichler, a veterinarian from Hartberg, took over as director of the zoo.

Doris Wolkner-Steinberger, managing director of Herberstein and Mautern, is pleased with the results after the first “double season”: “230,500 guests visited the two recreational facilities, and the attractive combo offer in particular was taken advantage of many times!”
The merger of the two recreational facilities has also led to personnel changes: Veterinarian Dr. Reinhard Pichler, 34, is taking over as zoological director for both facilities and is now responsible for the health and well-being of approximately 700 zoo animals. Dr. Pichler has been employed at Herberstein Zoo since 2009 and has run a veterinary practice in the Hartberg district since 2008.
