New Animal Arrivals at Herberstein Wildlife Park

Every year, we take advantage of the somewhat quieter winter season to make numerous improvements to the zoo grounds, making your visit to the Animal Kingdom even more enjoyable.

We take guest feedback very seriously and try to incorporate as much of it as possible—whether it’s provided in person on-site, through our guest suggestion box at the Zooschenke, or via social media reviews on Facebook or Instagram.

All the latest news at a glance!

• Leon's Discovery World: Located across from the lynx enclosure and right next to the Simbawelt family restaurant, our newly renovated Discovery World is now almost twice as large. A sofa, flat-screen TV, and other amenities invite you to take a break. Animal exhibits in the display cases can be admired up close by visitors of all ages.
• Second EV charging station. Due to the great popularity and high usage of our Energie Steiermark EV charging station, we have upgraded it with an additional charging point. Free charging for all visitors with electric cars during our business hours.
• E-bike charging station. Starting this season, not only owners of four-wheeled vehicles but also those with two-wheeled vehicles can enjoy a free charging station during our business hours. It will be installed right next to the bike racks, and completion is scheduled for the near future.
• Drinking water! We have received many requests for drinking water from the tap. The first drinking fountain, located near the Lion House, was installed in 2017. Now another one is being added near the South American House. Drinking water is also available in the diaper-changing and nursing hut, in Leon’s World of Discovery, and in the restrooms/bathrooms at the Zoo Café.

We’re declaring war on PET bottles. Reducing waste—especially plastic bottles—is our top priority. The Herberstein reusable system helps us do just that. Starting this season, you can purchase your own Herberstein water bottle —featuring a stylish zebra design—from us and refill it at our self-service stations, the Zoo Shop, and the Panoramaplatzl. Our stated goal is to cut plastic waste in half within one year.

At the Simbawelt Family Restaurant, we are placing greater emphasis on locally produced items. For example, the regionally produced cult beverage EVANS, from Fürstenfeld—the spa capital of Styria—is available at the Simbawelt Family Restaurant.

We are a family-friendly destination! That’s why it’s very important to us to keep the zoo smoke-free. To ensure that smokers don’t have to go without their cigarettes, we’ve designated specific smoking areas on the grounds. These areas are marked on the map.
