Numerous speakers highlighted how this new animal addition underscores the great appeal of Tierwelt Herberstein and its resulting importance as a driver of tourism for the region. “The lions are a major attraction at Tierwelt Herberstein. This makes Caesar significant not only for the zoo but also for tourism in the region,” said Dr. Christian Buchmann, State Minister of Economic Affairs.
The existing facility was expanded to include a new lion house and an additional outdoor enclosure within a 3-month construction period. Construction costs totaled EUR 280,000, 50% of which was subsidized by the State of Styria. The enclosure is designed for long-term breeding, and the zoology department has already begun searching for a lioness. The young big cat has already found its first sponsors in Julia and Stefan Felber of Felber Chocolates in Birkfeld.
Provincial Councilor Dr. Christian Buchmann has also been one of the proud animal sponsors at Tierwelt Herberstein since Friday: Cleo, the female lynx, is delighted to have such a prominent sponsor.
