A Messy House Share

The one-year-old Kunekune pigs, Wilma and Robbie, have “hit the jackpot”—they’ve moved into Tierwelt Herberstein! Kunekune pigs are an endangered ancient domestic breed.

Kunekune "Wilma" and "Robbie"

This breed of pig was discovered in New Zealand. To this day, it remains unclear which original pig breeds the Kunekunes descended from. “Kunekune” means “fat and round” in the Maori language. While not particularly flattering, this description is quite apt when applied to the animals’ physique. A distinctive feature is the “piri piri” under their chins, similar to that of goats.

You can find this pig duo at the petting zoo, where they share an enclosure with Ferdinand the mini pig. Wilma and Robbie are very friendly and would love to have animal sponsors.
