The northern ice sheet is melting. This is bad news for one of the last pristine regions on Earth. Temperatures are rising faster than even the gloomiest forecasts predicted, and the rate of ice melt is exceeding all previous climate scenarios.

It’s important to remember that the Arctic plays an immensely important role as a climate regulator for our planet. Without the cooling effect of the Arctic, global temperatures would rise even more rapidly. The melting of the polar ice caps points to impending climate change and should serve as a warning to us! If this continues, scientists predict that the North Pole will be ice-free within the next 10 to 20 years.

The Arctic and its inhabitants (polar bears, whales, seals, rare birds) are in danger! Not only are the flora and fauna at risk, but so are the livelihoods of the indigenous peoples who call the region home.
