Finding a Home in the Animal Kingdom, Too: A Coiled Bear Finds a New Home!

Shortly before Christmas, Tierwelt Herberstein received a call for help from Germany. A new home had to be found quickly for Gina, the baby bear. She has been living in Eastern Styria for a few days now!

Gina the swaddled bear has finally found a new home at Tierwelt Herberstein.

Animal welfare expert Frank Weber has been helping animals in need for years on the show “Hundkatzemaus” on the German network VOX. This time, he was looking for a home for Gina, a baby bear. Little is known about her background; her last owner was a private individual from Wiesbaden who already had a sloth bear, but the two bears were unable to get along. In his search for a suitable home, Frank Weber contacted Tierwelt Herberstein.

“Since our siamang monkeys moved into a new house this summer, we were able to house Gina in the old monkey house—it required hardly any modifications. In the winter, she shares the house with the turtles. Of course, we’re looking for a companion for her so she doesn’t have to stay alone!” says Reinhard Pichler, the zoological director at Herberstein.

Frank Weber personally brought the sloth bear to Herberstein and expressed his gratitude for the prompt assistance: “Finding a home for an animal in need doesn’t always go so quickly and smoothly! Gina has found a perfect, species-appropriate home in Herberstein.”

The story will be broadcast on VOX in January.
