Amira is a Persian name meaning “princess”—a fitting name for the majestic lioness who now lives at the “ Tierwelt Herberstein .” SPAR has taken on sponsorship of this big cat, who is one of the last of her kind. ’s First Female Lion In addition to Amira, there are already two lions at Herberstein: 17-year-old Simba and Caesar, who, like Amira, is a Berber lion. The staff at Herberstein are therefore hoping that Caesar and Amira will hit it off and give the Styrian zoo some offspring in the coming years. But all in good time: The one-and-a-half-year-old big cat is still getting used to her new surroundings. Amira was born in September 2016 at the Pilsen Zoo in the Czech Republic and only arrived in Austria this past February.
