Amira is a Persian name meaning “princess”—a fitting name for the majestic lioness who now lives at Tierwelt Herberstein. SPAR is sponsoring the big cat, who is one of the last of her kind. Christoph Holzer, SPAR Managing Director for Styria and Southern Burgenland, is delighted about the new addition to the SPAR family: “We are happy to be Amira’s sponsors and warmly welcome her here in Styria!” “The partnership with SPAR fills me with pride,” adds Ms. Doris Wolkner-Steinberger (Managing Director of Herberstein Zoo).
First female lion
In addition to Amira, there are already two lions at Herberstein: 17-year-old Simba and Caesar, who, like Amira, is a Berber lion. The staff at Herberstein are therefore hoping that Caesar and Amira will hit it off and produce offspring for the Styrian zoo in the coming years. But all in good time: the one-and-a-half-year-old big cat is still getting used to her new surroundings. Amira was born in September 2016 at the Pilsen Zoo in the Czech Republic and didn’t arrive in Austria until February of this year.
SPAR is giving away Herberstein admission tickets
There’s good news for all SPAR customers who would like to meet Amira in person: From March 23 through April 6, SPAR is giving away 50 pairs of day passes to Tierwelt Herberstein—enter at www.spar-steiermark.at—offering 100 SPAR customers the chance to visit the zoo for free. Even if you don’t win the contest, you can still save money. With a SPAR receipt, visitors receive a 10 percent discount on admission to Herberstein Zoo (redeemable through November 4, 2018). All they have to do is present the receipt at the zoo’s ticket office.
