Herberstein Wildlife Park to Host International Zoo Conference

51 zoo experts from Germany, Switzerland, and Austria have been meeting in Herberstein since Wednesday. They are discussing topics such as safety, increases in visitor numbers, and new media. This is the 13th time the conference has been held, but only the second time in Austria.

51 zoo experts are gathering for their annual conference at Tierwelt Herberstein.

Experts from 31 different zoos in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria have gathered at Tierwelt Herberstein. From Wednesday through Friday, an international exchange of experiences on all topics relevant to zoos will take place. This year’s thematic focus is on safety and communication. New media are expected to play a key role for European zoos in the future and help drive visitor growth, particularly among young visitors. The program also includes tours of Graz and the Styrian Apple Country to showcase Styria’s other areas of strength to conference attendees.

Tierwelt Managing Director Doris Wolkner-Steinberger is delighted to be able to introduce “her” zoo to her colleagues: “Whether a zoo is large or small, whether millions of visitors pass through its gates each year or just a few hundred thousand—the tasks, the requirements, and also the problems are the same everywhere!”
The proposed solutions will continue to be discussed through Saturday.
