Okawanga was born on July 1, 2014, and comes from Hellabrunn Zoo. The stallion Themba and the mares Saphira and Namibie round out the Herberstein zebra family, which belongs to the Hartmann's mountain zebra species.

This species is native to the rocky regions of Southwest Africa. They share the enclosure with the blue wildebeests. The acclimatization period is going very well—right now, the female zebras are establishing the hierarchy within the enclosure.
