How can we inspire children and teenagers to love animals while also raising their awareness of how to treat them responsibly? The two-semester course offered by “Tierschutz macht Schule,” which begins in Styria in the fall of 2026, provides answers to these questions. This free training program combines in-depth expertise in animal welfare with educational methods and hands-on experience.
The program focuses on the needs of animals and key issues in animal welfare. Renowned experts share their knowledge on various animal species and topics and provide insights into the Austrian animal welfare landscape. From cats and horses to chickens and pigs: Participants learn how to convey complex animal welfare topics in a way that is age-appropriate and engaging.
Acquire knowledge, understand connections, and share what you've learned
In addition to the fundamental subject matter, the course also offers a wide range of practical and pedagogical content. Topics such as ethics, consumer behavior, and teaching methods are included in the curriculum, as are field trips that directly link theoretical knowledge with practical experience.
A large portion of the course takes place online. This makes it easy to balance the training with professional and personal commitments.
“Animal Welfare in Schools” takes a hands-on approach: the goal is not merely to impart knowledge, but to bring it to life. The aim is to empower participants to inspire enthusiasm for animal welfare themselves and to encourage children and teenagers to treat animals with respect.
“Know and Show”: Animal Welfare Knowledge for Practical Application
The course’s motto is “Know and Show.” Upon successful completion, graduates will have acquired specific knowledge and practical experience in animal welfare issues and how to communicate them.
